Locksmith Helps Early morning Caller

March 21st, 2012 admin No comments

One of our locksmiths got called to a gentleman locked out who was visually impaired in fact the man had no sight at all. The gentleman had been locked out since 7 o’clock the previous evening and it was now 7am. It appeared that he you would not ask for help from his friendly neighbors due to his independence. It had turned out that the gentleman had spent over 12 hours standing outside his door trying to figure out what to do. His friendly retired neighbor from across the lobby had come out the next morning and helped call the locksmith to the rescue. The neighbor had came out to find him standing there and offered him use his mobile phone. The locksmith on call managed to get down as quickly as possible as the neighbor was worried about the gentleman. The locksmith arrived within 20 minutes and managed to get him in within another few minutes. At this stage the blind man had released that he had not got the money on him to pay the locksmith so asked if the locksmith would help him to the bank link machine. Of course our locksmith had no hesitation in helping him out. The locksmith brought the gentlemen to cash machine which was about 15 to 20 minutes walk away.

While walking down to the bank link the gentleman was full of conversation and pointed out to the locksmith that he’s doing three days a week on dialyses machines in hospital and makes his way there and back of his own free will rather than having a Taxi bring him there and back which he would not have to pay for. The locksmith continued to have conversation in relation to his activities during the day and the gentleman was a very active individual who regularly went shopping without hesitation or a care in the world.

It struck the locksmith with all the doom and gloom in the country here is a gentleman visually impaired having to spend three days a week in hospitable also having spent the whole night in a hallway with no food or heat and here was a happier and content positive person you have ever met in your life. It was a pleasure to deal with this gentleman and it was also a pleasure to facilitate in going to a banking machine. It would certainly make you realize how lucky we can be to have on our own site and hearing and be healthy.

Locksmiths Prices

March 21st, 2012 admin No comments

Locksmith’s prices would appear to vary across the country. The price in which a locksmith would charge can be very dependent on whether the company is professional or not.  Locksmiths prices in Ireland tend to vary from €40 up to €110 depending on what part of the country you are in be it the city or rural parts. Why is there such a big difference in price, well sometimes it is down to the company them self’s, the locksmith will quote a cheap price with the intention to raze the price when they get to you stating that the lock is different or a different size or simply its not what you said on the phone.

Before you call a locksmith to your home or business a customer should look at first what the company offers. There are guys in vans who have claimed to have had being trained and offer locksmith services but would have not had any training at all. Don’t be afraid to ask the question has the company had adequate training, how long are they in business, do they have a registered business address or simply just a mobile phone number in an advert. Search online see if there are comments being made by past customers, are they good or bad. Are they security vetted?  Are they part of an association within the locksmith association, are you familiar with the company are the name recognizable, will the company offer you a guarantee, and are they registered in the company’s office with a registered office and not just a name with a listed office that doesn’t exist. Do they have ID which was shows name and address, is the company properly insured?

Does the locksmith you intend to use appear to be professional are you happy with the answers the locksmith gives you, are you happy he knows what he’s talking about and can solve your problem with it out costing a fortune.

After all this person is going to be in your home or business.

Every one has a story to tell about the cheap job which had been done where companies or individuals claiming to be something they’re not and have done a botched job resulting in the owner having to get a proper trades man to finish it off  having cost allot more in the long run. The cheapest guy always ends up costing more. In order for them to do a cheap job they must use cheaper materials, possibly second hand materials and in correct  tools and more times than not will not return when there is a problem with the job in which they have done.

Always ask for a receipt and make sure it has their company name on it. This will be your guarantee if a problem arises.  Will they be part of an association within the trade are you familiar with the company is the name recognizable Will accompany offer you a guarantee I’ve a registered company with a registered office and not just a name with their office that doesn’t exist and address that doesn’t exist will they carry ID

She had requested the locksmiths services before 10 PM and made us promice we would have the door open by then as she required to go to work. The locksmith arrived on time and opened the door within minutes, she was happy with our service but there was one problem, unfortunately she had realised she had not anough money and was not sure how she was going to pay the locksmith the full amount. The young woman was short five euros she then said can i give you a lapdance as this was her job was and she had to be at by 10pm. The locksmith pointed out that it was not a problem to give the discount and a lapdance would not be nesseary.
However she insisted and continued to give him a lapdance. She continued to point out the she worked in a lap dancing club locally and requested him to call round some evening while passing by. She then stuffed her business cards for the lapdancing club into his pocket.

In the early part of this year our locksmith received a call from the owner who had arrived Home to find a burglar coming down his stairwell he immediately re-locked the door locking the intruder inside and then contact the Gardi, however the intruder had not seen the owner and was unware that he was now locked in.The burglar had broken in to the house earlier and gone upstairs, however he was not expecting the owner  to arrive home. The intruder had taken some jewelery, cameras, Watchers and a mobile phone and put them into is rucksack, he then tried to leave through the front door not realising it was locked he then attempted to leave through thre rear door, however at this stage the Garda were there to arrest the man.
The owner quickly made contact with the locksmiths in Dublin and we got around there shortly afterwards to change the locks on the back and front doors within the hour. Shortly afterwords the owner was more than happy to receive his goods back. The Gardi were able to return all the stolen goods. What you Should kinow about Locksmiths

November 9th, 2011 admin No comments

Professional locksmiths will have and will continue to invest in their training

An untrained locksmith will have not required training and will not provide correct advice

Professional locksmiths will follow a code of good business practice

An unprofessional locksmith will be unpredictable in their customer dealings, false claims, false pricing, misleading knowledge

Professional locksmiths can verify any training they have completed generally through a recognised training body

Untrained locksmiths might or not complete a 3/5 day course leading to their claims they are qualified, however it would be imposable to learn the knowledge of a locksmith within this time

Professional locksmiths will advertise their contact address, contact office/shop phone number

Unprofessional locksmiths will have misleading information being advertised including no address or mis leading address

Professional locksmiths can offer correct advice as per insurance standards

Untrained locksmiths will not be aware of the criteria of insurance companies

Professional locksmiths will leave the customer a receipt of guarantee which will clearly show a breakdown of all costs with no hidden extras

Unprofessional locksmiths will want cash payment and there receipt will be unclear if any. There is likely to be  hidden extras

Home Security Helpful Tips

November 3rd, 2011 admin 1 comment

Traditional wooden doors.

Generally have a Yale type night latch fitted around shoulder height. However it would not be to insurance standards.

A 5 lever mortice is required for insurance purposes. This is a lock that is generally fitted in a wooden door around knee height. It is fitted internally and can only be seen from the inside and outside via a key hole.

UPVC doors and some newer wooden doors

Would  have multi point locks fitted to them which are up to insurance standards.

A multi point lock is fitted internally and runs from the top to the bottom of the door. It is generally requires to lift the handle and then turn the key to lock the door.

For this type of door you can add a Yale type night latch and cylinder for added security or replace the cylinder in the centre of the door to a anti snap euro cylinder.

Apartment doors

In recent years generally have a lock fitted in the centre of the door with a thumb turn on the inside for fire regulations and key on the outside. Should be up to insurance standards.

A 5 lever mortice lock fitted below or above the current lock will dramatically increase security.

UPVC Windows

Generally have a multi point lock fitted and are up to insurance standards.

An extra lock can be fitted for added security which is fitted on the surface of the opening.

Aluminium Windows

Generally have one handle only on them for locking.

You would require an additional lock fitted to these windows for added security and insurance purposes fitted on the surface of the opening.

Wooden windows

There are two types, one with arm type lock system which would require a additional lock for insurance purposes.

Multi point wooden windows generally have a multi point lock fitted and are generally adequate for insurance purposes. Extra locks can be fitted to add security.

Alarms

Provide a deterrent visually and when an intruder attempts to gain entry.

A PSA approved installation of an alarm would be recommended for added security.

Security Lights

Generally fitted to the rear or protecting a drive way.

A security light in a unlit area can be very good deterrent for any premises

Locksmiths Has Lucky Escape

October 5th, 2011 admin No comments

One of our locksmiths received a call around 2.30 pm for the Dublin 4 area. The locksmith had brought his brother Paul along as he is in the process of training him.

He parked up the van in a well lit up very well know commercial and residential area in Dublin with the hazard lights on.

The locksmiths brother Paul decided to wait in the van as to avoid being clamped by the vehicle clampers. While the locksmith was in the premises some four to six minutes he noticed a call on his mobile phone from his brother, however as he entered the lift going down he lost signal and could not answer the call.

After arriving back at the van he could see that his brother Paul was in need of some help and then realised that he was after being assaulted.

While waiting in the van the brother Paul had noticed a person trying to open the door on the van by another person who he thought to be his brother, Paul opened the central locking got out and then suddenly noticed that this was in fact a person trying to gain entry to the van. At this stage the attacker  was taken a back and swung a punch at Paul which caught him above his eye brow and cut it open. A scuffle had pursued for maybe one to two minutes before the attacker finally ran off.  Thankfully the attacker had not gotten the better of the trainee locksmith, however the locksmith was left shaken after the event. The conclusion was that the attacker had being trying to steal from the van and had himself be stumbled not realising that there was someone inside. The locksmith would be very experienced with calling to homes and business in and around Dublin during the day and night and had never experienced anything like this before.

On a regular basis our locksmiths are asked and come across how to open a 2 lever lock when the key has being broken or lost. A professional locksmith would not need to even have a key as they can easily pick it open. Below is a guide to the number of keys that are available for the basta lock and the locksmith explains the process in finding the correct one.
